Alone with the Jewellery collection of the Rijksmuseum
When you’re in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, you will no doubt go and see the Golden Age paintings. But once in a while, it can be very nice to skip the highlights and most of all, the crowds.
Why not treat yourself with a visit to the Special Collections on the ground floor of the museum. On display here are ‘small’ objects, such as model ships, miniature silver (for dollhouses), vases, instruments, magic lanterns, and jewellery.
In a small corner you will find the cabinets with the Rijksmuseums’ jewellery collection. Most of the jewels are made between the seventeenth and nineteenth century: Shiny diamonds, brooches, hairpins, and my personal favourite: watches and pocket-clocks.
Peek into the cabinets and enjoy all these miniature works of art. And with a bit of luck, you have the whole space for yourself.
